On The Rocks Special: Who was Sgt. William Carney?

We have a very special episode this week as we celebrate the theatrical work of our own co-host Bruce Chester.

Bruce has perfomed ‘Hold High the Flag, Sgt. Carney’, a one man show depicting Carney in his later years since 2013.  The show was written by Bruce’s mentor.

Producer Cam McLeod and On the Rocks co-host Scott M. Graves sat down with Bruce following his performance at the Tewksbury (MA) library to discuss the show’s origins, Bruce’s theatrical career and the relevance of Carney’s experience to our own time, plus put the events of the 54th Massachusetts Regiment, an all-african-american regiment, into context.
